Take off that dash mat/pad and that tach or whatever it is mounted on top of the center of the dash and it would look cool

I like the Mat! Living in Arizona the Mat as ugly as some folks think it is should realise it is a very functional necessity unless swaping warped, cracked and lifting dashpads is a skill you want to practice every 5 years or so. Must be a Westcoast vs Eastcoast thing? When you move to Arizona resistance is futile, embrace the mat.
