Default security function on 92?

Hello all,

my new 92' came w/ a set of full shop manuals but no owners manual...the "security" light in dash flashes when off so what is the security function? strictly the chip key? what security system does it have as stock (no key fob)?

i think it's just stating no start w/o pass key but just was curious (no plans to leave it unattended outside of my garage anyway! haha)

thanks

James

The "security" light in the lower left of the instrument panel you mean?, and it flashes when you have the door open, but no key in the ignition?

If that is what is happening, that is what it should be doing.

I don't know at the moment but I hate when you get in the car and lock the doors (aka bad part of town) but not crank it. After sitting inside the car for about 30 seconds and then crank it with the doors still locked the freaking alarm goes off.

Default security function

So the light flashes when opening door but before the key is in ignition...does it have any other fuction besides advertising the pass-key required? Any other sensors in the car?

Thanks.

The Security light serves two purposes.

When the door is open if the alarm is not set the Security light blinks.
You can arm the alarm system by opening the door and using the power door lock button to lock the doors. The Security light will stop blinking and stay on.

As you shut the door, the Security light will go out and the system is armed. To disarm the system you use the door key on either door. Turn the key left to right or right to left will disarm the alarm.

When you place the key in the ignition cylinder and turn the key to run or start, the CCM reads the key pellet resistance and if it's the proper value, the Security light will go out. If it stays on something is wrong with the Passkey System. Could be a worn key pellet, worn contacts in the ignition key cylinder, broken wire at the ignition key cylinder contacts or bad CCM.

Factory Passive Keyless Entry wasn't available until 93.
