Can anyone tell me what kind of undertaking it is to disable CAGS? Does the 'Check Engine' light stay on after it is disabled? Is this a process that someone with limited mechanical skills should try to do?
Here's how I did it on my 93:
I just removed the one to four computer-aided gearshift from my manual transmission ruby. In the service manual if you look up the solenoid wiring there is some mis-information, it refers you to the wrong ECM pins. The wiring diagram for the ECM shows the correct pins. I can make disconnecting this easy for everyone else. On your ECM, A connector block (gray tab) disconnect A-9, the white wire (circuit 375). This controls the dash one to four indicator light. On connector block B (red tab) disconnect B-2, the dark blue wire (circuit 1493). This controls the solenoid at the transmission. I had wanted to remove the wire and pin from the connector but was unsuccessful even using the correct tool GM specifies. I ended up cutting the wire and taping it, so I can reconnect with a butt connector if I may ever want to put it back. (But why would you!) If anyone has any questions e-mail me at JPort59@aol.com
On the late modle C4s you can just disconnect the plug from the tranny. It's on the drivers side near the shifter. I did this on my '95 and got no codes. The 1 to 4 light does come on. The connectors sold to do this are only blank to keep dirt from getting into the plugs.

Man, what WERE they thinkin'?
TIA
Its simple...if I can do it...u can do it...doesnt mess up anything... :D
Anyone can do it. No tools required. No brains needed either. Drivers side of the trans has one wire connector. Un plug it. Tape it up if you wish to keep the contacts clean. If the wire dangles too low then tie wire it up. The 1 to 4 light will still come on but it will not affect the check engine or service lights. No trouble codes will be established.
This was the first mod done to my 96 when I bought it new.
While all the paperwork was being completed the dealer put it up on the lift and disconnected it for me.
Pretty cool dealer huh?
