I did a similar upgrade last summer to my 86 vert. I kept the same width tire but in 18 inches (Goodyear 255/40s) on c6 split spoke chromes. I still had original tires so the upgrade put new rubber and the difference was amazing. The ride quality did not suffer, only got better. I can't post pictures, but click on "My Corvette Photos" under my name to the left to see how it came out.

Your car looks great. I think my problem was the 19's with the run flats on the rear with the lowering kit. All contributed to the rough unstable ride. I would hit a few bumps and the rear of my vette moved sideways. Kinda scary if you are into a turn. I also have new KYB shocks too. I think if I had all 18's on regular tires the ride would have been a little different. The ride always improves when you get new tires. Take care.
