I make it a habit to build a radar detector connection into the car and wire it so I am not using the lighter adapter. I will normally run the wire into a loal connection (previously into power in the rear view mirror or a secondary 12 V connection). Are there any fuses that are recommneded for making a second connction? Based on what I have read, there is a fuse connection for additional connections in the 1994+ (which I have).
Gentleman, this is an easy one. Open the console, loosen some screws, there will be three wires visible in the direction of the shifter. As I recall Orange, pink and black. O/always hot, P/switched and B/grounded. Radio Shack sells a lighter outlet kit or you can hard wire your ECM pod or whatever. I didn't even have to take the screws out all the way. the wires were right there. Hope that helps.
THat is what I neeed to know. I didnt see it in the owners manual. Last part of the question; I would assume this connection is fused, and if so, which fuse is it? Should I put an inline in just to be sure? I am going to hardwire it.
At least on a 91 the auxilarry connection is fused in the secondary fuse boxed located at the back of the right passener foot area. If I remember correctly they are 10 or 15 amp fuses which are the same as or immediately next to the one for the cigarrete lighter. If you pull the right bolster you can see the fuse area and visually identify the fuses with a flashlight.

I had no idea this was there I will need to look for that. Darn C4s learn something new and cool every day. What year did they start doing this 90?
When I wired my Cobra into the switched power to the RVM I looked at the size of the cable to the Cobra and knew it didn't draw much current so did not add an in-line fuse.

The fuse is there to protect the equipment. My radar detector requires a 1 amp fuse to safely protect it, so I stuffed a mini fuse into the mirror housing.
