So I was driving along today without any issues, except for the smoke coming out of the hood & pouring out the sides . Appearantly I sprung an engine oil leak (towards the center, near the windshield) & it's dripping down onto the tranny & catback causing a lot of smoke (white) . I'm taking it to a mechanic first thing in the morning. Any idea whether this is going to be a major repair or a small issue? BallPark Price? Thanks Guy.
It does sound like a pretty big leak that suddenly developed. Seals usually start out with the first drip and slowly and progressively get worse if you don't fix it right away. Your leak sounds like it leaked a lot all of a sudden; possibly a failed oil pressure sending unit. It is also located just under the center of your windshield on top of engine block. Cost should be about a half hour to replace and $20 or so for the sending unit if it is a sending unit.
