Stereo problem Bose system
i just bought a Pioneer stereo for my 89 vette that
has Bose sound in it, it got an speaker adapter and a wiring harness
adapter. I have no sound coming out the speakers. I noticed that the
new radeo does not have 2 or 3 connectors that the old one had. the wiring harness makes no mention of these extra plugs. Does anyone know where to get a diagram of the origional wiring? I have a hanes manual but it only shows typical wiring and not the bose
thanks
Dave
Not sure if you know it but just to be safe, the 89 like yours and mine have amplifiers built onto the speakers, not really sure if it is possible to bypass the amps through the wiring from the new Pioneer or if the adapter and harness your have is suppose to do this. I'd ask from whoever sold you the harness and adapter for this unit(Crutchfield?).. Unfortunately the amps for two of my speakers(left side) seems to have died, Bose setup in these 89's are crazy if you ask me..
The white connector has the wires for the front speakers. The blue connector is the rear.
To the right hand side, rear of radio, there is a connector with an orange and brown wire. The orange wire is the 12 volt constant battery wire that you will need. The brown is the dimmer which may or may not be applicable on your new radio.

There are two fuses that are vital to your stereo functioning: the radio fuse and the ctsy/clk fuse.

I know about everything you told me, I have an adapter that interfaces between the Pioneer stereo and the Bose amps. I also have the wiring diagram shown above. What the wiring diagram above does not show is the extra connection (I think that are for the Bose amps) that are on the stock radio.
Where the red, white and black connectors come out of the stock radio is another wire with a connector on it, it kind of shoots out between the casing of the radio. Than there is another one that looks like a thick black outer sleeve with a white sleeved wire as the center conductor. I think there is one more connector also but i can not remember for sure, i need to go down to the garage and look..
I think I am going to plug the stock radio back in and see if there is 12 Volts coming from the radio to any of these connectors, I think at least one of them must be used to power up the amps, maybe through a relay or something
Check the Ohm rating of the Delco-Bose speakers. If they are like the ones I had in my '91 coupe, they were rated at 10 Ohms. That's 2.5 times more than the radio called for. (I also installed a Pioneer).
My solution was to replace all the awful Bose speakers and get medium quality new ones. Now I have acceptable sound from all speakers.
One disappointment I had was when I finally got front speakers I discovered that the location for the front are all wrong for a small speaker. The rear 6x9s sound excellent. But putting a 4" speaker down by one's legs is a poor location for higher frequency sounds.
Best wishes.
