Hello,
I have a 93 Ruby automatic and recently the radio/casette player has stopped working. Now the car will not start after sitting for a couple days!!
It will after a charge but then the next day dead again. The battery is only a year old, and the mileage is at 40,000. Is it the dreaded optispark problem? I am not mechanically inclined so it will have to go to the dealer. Any suggestions, maybe just a short somewhere??
Thanks for any advice.
Marcia
There is a drain on the battery when parked. Meaning something is 'on'. Most circuits are fuse protected against a short circuit, so that is unlikely, still possible, but unlikely. The next step would be a visual look for something left on (interior lights, under hood lamps, blower motor, etc, etc.) followed by an inidividual circuit draw test. A bad, or shorted, alternator can also drain a battery when parked and any auto parts store can bench test an alternator for you. The radio/cd player maybe just a fuse, or it might be related, you would have to check it out to be sure.
