4+3 filter kit
I was reading a lot about the filter kit for the 4+3 and the rubber seal"garmet" issues.
whats the best place to order this filter kit with a good quality rubber seal "garmet" included in kit that wont have any fitment issues?
Dealer does not supply this filter anymore discontinued
Im looking to change out the filter in my 4+3 and dont want any issue with rubber seal "garmet "and hope to find one with everything I need included besides Eckler.(fitment issues i hear with rubber seal"garmet")
Can someone recommend a good place to buy this kit..Id like to order one ASAP.
Thanks Forum

One thing to be certain to do when putting new fluid in, is to rotate the rear wheels to fill the entire system. Fill to plug hole, rotate rear wheels for about a minute, add more fluid to fill hole.
Someone here posted a while back that the Ford C4 automatic also uses the same filter. You might check with your local auto parts store and see if they carry it. If you can't find a gasket (factory did not use one) you can always make one from gasket paper. You can buy a roll at any good auto parts store as well, very inexpensive and handy to keep around.
Good luck... GUSTO
GUSTO14 I bought one a few years back from ZIP and it came with everything needed.

Chatman I am not aware of the grommet issue you mentioned. The kit I bought from Ecklers or Madvet was complete and the grommet must have been fine. It did include a cork gasket that I didn't use -- preferred The Right Stuff.

Thanks Guys
I order the kit from Eckler's and i will be picking up some of that THE RIGHT STUFF
The one thing i heard about the eckler kit is the garmmet isnt the greastest quality but i guess that will make you change it more offend.
Chatman how long has the garmmet lasted so far for you?
And 2 more questions about how much fuilded did it take to fill the OD unit up and did you use ATF Dextron II ??
Thanks Again
When you use The Right Stuff, let it sit overnight. It says you can use it right away, but that always leads to a leak for me. Take it easy on the bolts, they don't take much torque. If they do strip, go to a slightly longer one from the hardware store.

A higher quality buna-N or maybe silicone grommet should be used. I'm no fluid expert. Repzard, check your PM.

I just spliced in the cooling lines at the Radiator.Mounted it on left side of radiator.

According to the CarQuest website's store locator page, there is a CarQuest store at 30 Millbury St in Worcester. Go there and ask for part # 85926 This is a tranny filter for a Ford FMX auto tranny found in late 60's to early 70's Cougars, Torino's and some F150's. Should cost around 6 to 8 dollars plus any sales taxes.Send a PM to forum member ACECO to find out if he has some extra grommets to sell. After doing some research, he bought a bunch and I got a half-dozen from him. Read the link he posted above
.Once you get the pan off (loosen all of the bolts and drop the deep part of the pan first to minimize spilling), clean it completely and make sure the pan rails are straight and smooth. There should be a magnet in the pan so remove that and clean it too.
You can use non-chlorinated brake parts cleaner to remove all traces of gasket or old RTV sealant from the pan and the tranny case rail. After cleaning, wipe some acetone on the surfaces to remove any traces of the brake parts cleaner. The rails must be clean and dry when you apply the RTV.
Remove the cooling lines from the case and use low pressure air (5-10psi) with a nozzle to blow out the cooling lines. There's not a lot of fluid in the lines, but the old fluid should come out. Parts stores have a pressurized can of solvent for just this purpose if you don't have an air compressor.
A good RTV black sealant (The Right Stuff) will work much better than a cork gasket. Apply according to directions and re-install the pan (after you install the new filter and grommet
It takes about 2 quarts of Dexron II/III to refill. Once you add fluid to the pan, rotate a rear tire for a couple of minutes to let the OD pump move fluid into the cooling lines. Top off after that and you are done.

I'd post it up over here but I can't post pics

I believe it's a Fram PH8 Ford filter. Yes,they can be purchased locally.

Another victim. One of your local parts stores that you already have to go to will have it for about $5-$10, and zero shipping.
