Where is the best deal for me to purchase a new fuel pump for my 87 vert? I have replaced the fuel filter 2 years ago and I have a feeling my fuel pump is heading south which is causing it to hestitate or feel like its going to shut down when stepping on the gas pedal.
It's a good idea to test your fuel pressure at the schrader valve before replacing anything. Would be a bummer to buy an expensive part you didn't really need. The hesitation could be caused by a number of things. It may turn out to be your pump after all, but better to run tests than throw parts at it.
Tape the gauge to the windshield and drive the car....see what your fuel pressure does under various conditions, particularly when the symptoms pop up.
At any rate, the consensus seems to be that if you need a pump, AC Delco is the way to go. On the other hand, they're pricey. A Carter pump from Pep Girls is around $70 and has a lifetime warranty. I wouldn't do that on a car that's hard to change the pump on (IE have to drop the tank) , but changing a fuel pump is a 15 minute job on a C4 Corvette, and lifetime warranties are a good thing.

I have a 84 which I felt was not running "smoothly",or seemed to have a rough spot when ideling or on an easy run up to say 65mph.. I started checking the fuel system, and located a vacum leak in the return hose at the smog cannister, left front fender well. I bypassed it by taking the return hose from the fuel line, which directs fumes from the tank to the cannister, and routed it directly to the PCV valve. On 84 the return hose normally goes from the tank, thru the cannister, thru a purge valve, and then to the PCV valve on the left bank cyclinder head. It ironed out the vacum leak, and now idles smoothly and has a faster reaction time from foot pedal to car movement. No more gas odors either.Someone on here could post a schematic of the vacum system;that's where I got mine;Where else but here....These guys are the best........... No sooner than a wrote this, someone has posted a picture of just what I told you about...read the post about the "84 needs a Air Injection Control valve".. The schematic is in there.....Good Luck....Is this a good site or what?...

I went ahead and purchased a fuel pump from Pep Boys yesterday before checking into my problem. They were selling as you said for $70. However it only came with a 1 year warranty. I asked for them to double check because you mentioned it came with a lifetime warranty. It didn't. Not sure why.
Also I installed the new pump and everything is back to normal. She drives like a bat out of hell. No issues.
Only problem is upon removing the plate on top of the tank.. 3 bolts snapped at the bolt heads due to rust. I cannot back the threads out for those 3. The ones that snapped were the left 2 vertical sides and one right bottom corner. Is this going to be a problem? There isn't any now. However I did buy new bolts and o rings. I'm waiting for the new gas tank gasket seal from Chevy in which I will install next week.
