Default Installing a new/different LTPWS sensor

A tire shop busted my sensor and got a replacement from a dealer (used). When I took the car for a test drive, after a few miles the "Service LTPWS" light came on. After shutting the system down, and restarting, the light went out, but came on again after driving a few miles. From the FSM, it appears the system checks sensor status regularly, and returns an error if detected from a nonfunctional sensor, which would lead me to believe that the replacement unit is intermittent. The shop has been very cooperative. When they called the source, they were told that a Corvette specialist (in other words - them) had to reset the system. Sounds like BS to me. Anybody got the skinny on this?

It doesn't sound unreasonable. The C5/C6 TPMS systems have to be "reset" or learned by a special computer - there were fewer RPO UJ6 cars made compared to the later cars that I haven't seen much information on them.

Here's a great link regarding the newer TPMS Systems and the learning process: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...highlight=TPMS

hmmmm

Check the service manual... My Cadillac has a LTPWS,and when they reset them they use a Magnet to do it(probably different with a Vette).

I would check my manual, but it is with the Vette in storage

Good Luck

Pennstate, the fsm is always my first stop, at least with something new - couldn't find any reference to having to clear codes...

Its possible but Id sure be interested in know what color "used" sensor they put in the the damaged wheel. So I would suspect either a failing sensor or the wrong sensor is installed. Heres a quick question what color was the sensor they broke? Black body or Tan body? All the sensors need to be the same color body for the system to work. Why? because they used different frequencies. After that determination you need to look for the blue, Green, Red etc colors and LF RF LR RR markings. Good luck but at least this gives you a place to start researching. Tan colors were the early years systems LTPWS system with black being the latter years system.

you need a paper clip to jump 2 terminals in the under dash ALDL connector. I forget which 2 terminals.

Default Part listings

The parts books here are "locked down", so sorry for the print screen .jpg, but this should give you an idea of the part numbers you need.

You'll note that in some applications, the sensors are listed as position specific.

Hope this helps.

I don't know of any current production LTPWS system that doesn't communicate with some Module somewhere all of which have a fault/memory function - Toyota, for example, ties theirs into the Stability Control/Anti-Lock Brakes and includes a button on the Dash to reset it if you do something as minor as rotate the tires. Disconnect and reconnect the battery and see what that does. If it goes away, so will your headache.
