Default Draining transmission

I will be draining my tranny and replacing the filter as part of a shift kit installation this weekend. My question is this:

Should I drain the converter also? I believe this requires drilling a hole in the TC, and then repairing it with a screw. Has anyone done this? Should I mix the new fluid with the 4 or 5 old quarts in the TC?

I've always been hesitant about drilling into the TC or the tranny. Probably just me being paranoid, but I wouldn't. As long as the filter is fairly fresh it shouldn't hurt to leave the fluid in the TC.

Why not take it somewhere and have it flushed. Then drop the pan, install shift kit, and new filter assy.

My problem with flushing the system is that many operators don't know how to operate the equipment. Kale(Vash,Smash) had his flushed and they blew the seals in his tranny.

From what I understand the newer flush machines use the pressure from the cooler line to push the new fluid in. I wonder how many transmissions are flushed, with the owner trying to solve a problem with the transmission, and then, shortly thereafter the transmission dies. Probably would have anyway. Also, on some Fords, that are having a TC shudder, there is a bulleton out that says to "flush" the transmission. I had mine flushed, drove it home and then dropped the pan and changed the filter. I havnt had any problems with it. Good luck on your decision!!

Never done it on a Vette (always had manuals), but most torque converters I've seen had a plug. You just have it rotate it until you find the plug.
