i got my insurance bill yesterday, and damn near fell on the floor. state farm lowered my coverage on my 85 again. my last 6 month premium was around $200/half, full coverage. this 6 month premium is $157, and their sending me some sort of refund for $25 - WTF? anyway its time!

I have 2 cars, an 85 volvo and the vette. I used to have the 85 as my primary vehicle, and the vette as the pleasure vehicle. But When I changed my vette to my primary, my insurance went down.

I got that too....they call it a "dividend". Basically they have been overcharging safe drivers.

BTW mine went under $300 a year for full coverage.

I got lucky. I just switched from State Farm to Shelter. My premiums dropped about $1400 for the year. My 94 Vette is down under $200 a year full coverage. We have our 98 Suburban TD, my 99 Z71, her 07 Jeep Commander Hemi, my Honda 929, homeowners, and three quads with them. To get another discount we purchased a life insurance policy for one of our kids that is about $18 a month for one year. No Sh...poopy!!!! $1400 a year. $300 was on Vette, $260 on bike, $300 on Z, Jeep was about the same, but the big one was the Burban at nearly $550.

Don't know about overcharging safe drivers. The way it was explained to me by an agent long time ago was after having insurance with them for certain period of time you become part of the "mutual", i.e. State Farm Mutual. Guaranteed renewals, not dropping you, a piece of the pie (profits) and the such.

You people have cheap insurance. I am insured with Farm Bureau. 3 Vehicles, all full coverage and the insurance on my 92 is $800.00 a year. No tickets on my record, no accidents so why the H E double hockey sticks is it so high.

I am sure I get the multi car, no kids over 14, homeowners, life insurance holder, buddy buddy discount. I dont insure my 77 C3 or my 70 Monte at all since they are still projects. I am hoping they will cover those for what I have in them....like a collectors policy.

While age and driving record is significant, where the car is located also plays a huge role. My insurance would cost half as much if I lived fifty miles in a different direction. Because it's estimated that one out of four drivers in Palm Beach County, FL are uninsured, I'm not only paying for my coverage, I'm also paying a part of some stranger's as well. If you're involved in an accident and the other guy is at fault but has no insurance, from the insurance company's perspective, it doesn't matter who was at fault. And the premiums here reflect that...

Luckily my 6th corvette an LT4 is not a daily driver anymore. Typical collector insurance mine is with "American Hobbyist" $216 a year 19K payoff agreed value no mileage stipulation just need to park in garage and not drive to work... After over 4 years of ownership insurance maintenance registration and inspection and depreciation and gas is less than $100 a month....considering a near perfect LT4 with 56k miles is still worth 15k.That means i have 19.8k in it roughly.....about $30 a month accumulating not counting more depreciation.......not bad...lol

I sucks that the rest of us pay for others mistakes or ignorance.

I ride motorcycles. A guy I know has bragged for 2 years that he has not made any payments on his bike(used a fake address for loan), never registered it, never insured it, never wears helmet, never got a motorcycle permit, uses expired plates off another bike, and does not care. The other night he got busted after sucking down 3 beers and decided to see how fast he can get his bike on the new 4 lane up the road. He got clocked at 124 in a 35, tried to run, got caught with 2 concealed weapons without permits, possesion controlled substance, DUI, wreckless driving, evading (big in KY), wanton endangerment, resisting arrest, no insurance, no registration, improper display, no license, and no helmet. The real load of bull is he got it ALL down to wreckless driving....the judge wrote the rest of it off. Pisses me off that I insure everything, never run, pay my tags and taxes and do my best and some idiot gets off with a warning. Sorry, I'm done now.

Yep, my '89 got cheaper to insure each year I drove it.

I had State Farm coverage too.

When I bought the car in 2002, six months cost $390.

When I sold it in 2006, six months cost around $260.

Almost nothing. He got some lawyer buddy of his dads to represent him for about $200. What comes around, goes around.
