I am trying to remove the shade that covers the storage area and cannot figure it out. It has the mechanics of a shade you would find in a home-it moves from side to side but will not release.
The reason for removing it is to get to the solenoid that controls the hatchback. Any Ideas?
Use the search function and include archive posts in your selection, this has been covered on the forum, but sorry can't point you directly to it...I've never removed mine, but there is a release on one of the sides by the rear wheel well area...
The privacy shade is spring loaded, like a pull-down window shade.
Press in on one end till it slides over enough to release that end. You may need to mess around with it if it hasn't rolled up evenly.
removing the shade was one of the bigger pain in the *****, i had with my 85. i found it best to remove it from the drivers side first - (it probably makes no difference). once you push toward the passengers side, a large flat bladed screwdriver as a prybar helps. note: i did have all my plastic trim out and was installing new carpet...
That is what I tried along with 2 other people- it still remains a mystery- I would think it operates the same as a shade in a home- As mentioned I am trying to replace the hachback solenoid and can't get to it- What a pain in the ...S.
thanks!:

Push towards the opposite side you are on, then on your side, insert a large screwdriver and push towards the opposite side and it slides right out. Takes about 5 seconds or so.

when changing the carpet on my 86 it seemed like it took forever to figure out how to remove the rear shade. Once i did it it was literally a 5 second job. Use a small pry bar on the drivers side end and just compress it. Dont worry you'll get it.

Do you need to remove the shade to remove solenoid. Haven't needed to mess with the solenoid yet, but when I have the rear trim off, that bugger is in my face.
