Hey everyone,
I posted a thread like this in the intro section of the forums, and was told I should come to you guys with this question. After owning my first car, a 2000 mustang, for 3 years, I've finally stepped up and bought a corvette. Its a 86 corvette, in a metallic red and manual. I've only driven it once so far and I love it, just the perfect mix of handling and power, a true sports car. Right now, Ive got the engine out (stupid piston rings have to be replaced), and it should be back together by the weekend. However I was hoping, since I still dont know a whole lot about it, if someone could give me some specs on it, like what the 0-60 is, average 1/4 mile time, and what kind of cars it will hang with. Thanks for your help.
Yea, i lucked out (or maybe not lol) and got one with aluminum heads. Im hoping to put a borla exhaust with some LT's to free up some horses for starters, after all i do have a friend with an sti i have to beat. Any suggestions as to what bolt ons I should start with, and possibly which cylinder heads and intake manifolds work the best. Oh and will I need dyno tuning with any of these additions? Sorry for all the questions, im just figuring ill dive into the engine while its on my bench in a thousand peices, instead of doing it later. Thanks for the support.
Welcome to the madness!
The best thing to do is to learn how to use the search function of the forum. Then you can find info on whatever you want to know.
As far as bolt on's, Headers and a true dual exhaust will give you the best bang for your buck. When it comes to heads and intakes, it all depends how deep your pockets are, and how fast you want to go. Since you have the car apart, the best thing to do would be some routine mant.Change the O/D trans fluid, the brake fluid, and the power steering fluid. Also the rear diff fluid, the the clutch hydralic system.
Well it turns out the cam bearings, and main bearings need to be replaced, and the crank needs to be machined. I'm starting to get nervous the deeper into the car I dig . Hopefully it will be ready by wednesday and ill have some pics up.
