Default Broken air filter housing

Another broken part... not a big deal, but now I'm wondering which way to go. The ear on my air filter housing is broken. So, only one side screws down. What to do?

Madvet has one for $70. Do I buy that, or go all the way and get a cold air intake? Another $100 - $120 for the whole setup, is it worth it? Opinions?

It must be a common occurance. If you are talking about the base mine did the same thing. I waited until I found a used housing here on the forums for sale section for around $20. Then I installed my AO ram air kit along with it.

On the cheap side you could machine a piece of angle iron to do the job.

Or, if you don't already have a K&N filter, think about getting the SLP ram-air setup. It comes with the new filter top plus a stock size K&N filter for around $120 mew.

I looked at the SLP. Is it any good? Is it worth the money? If you change to an LT1 intake, do you have to trash it?

I bent a strip of aluminum and JB welded it to the housing. Drilled and tapped. 3 years and still holding

That's creative, and wouldn't look bad. But the question is, is a cold air worth the money.

Hey I'm with you, mine is broken too. If you dont want to spend the money you can do what i did. Stick a few tie wraps together and run each one through the mounting hole of the air duct, around the filter lid and back through the hole on the other side and zip it up. Do this for both sides and just set it back down on the mounting screws and you should be good to go until you feel like throwing down $70 on another piece of plastic.

I just had to replace mine too and a zip wouldnt cure my problem. There was a hole in the front about the size of a half dollar. $70 aint cheap but theres not a whole lot of options.

The same thing happened to mine and I bought a new one from GM Parts Direct. It took a few weeks to get, but it was a genuine Gm part.

Its better than bone stock in terms of flow and air temps. I have it, but dont expect their advertised power gains. I dont believe its really any better than K&N w/cut lid however.

Worth that price new? I dont think so. I bought it used when my housing broke.

No.

...is a cold air worth the money.
I didn't see any gain in trap speed nor drop in ET.
