I see a variety of posts from people who think there should be criminal penalties imposed upon those people who don't rack up 10's of thousands of miles on their cars every year. And if you are insuring your toy as a collector car, adding a few thousand miles a year, you shouldn't even be allowed to own one, etc., etc. I feel kinda sorry for those people. They don't know what it is like to have a toy that serves no purpose but pleasure. They bot their cars and have rationalized their ownership by making it a regular driver, rather than something that is totally fun. And it is a known human trait that anything to which you are exposed repeatedly and over extended periods of time loses its impact. You know - seeing the forest for the trees concept? Every time I slide into that vette, it is an experience that I look forward to, and my entire attention is focused on the fact that I am there to have fun. No, I don't rack up a lot of miles, but every one of those is pure, unadulterated fun. I don't have to worry about parking 5 miles out in the mall so some idiot doesn't slam their car doors into mile, or push that shopping cart as hard as they can to see how far it will travel (and what it can bounce off of). And when I am frustrated and want to take my anger out on something, I find a physical outlet either doing some maintenance to my vette, or polishing and/or detailing out the car. If I want to run an errand, or do the daily, I've got other vehicles that get me from point a to b. But there is only one that I look forward to taking out just for the pleasure of it. I feel sorry for those that drive their cars daily, cause you can't help but get into it on some days and you are so busy thinking about your day-to-day problems that you don't even think about the pleasure of driving. Mine is a source of pleasure every time I drive it. And the experience is something I look forward to every time in anticipation. A toy that serves no purpose other than enjoyment.
Well.....mine's a DD,has been for the last 4 years, and I still look forward to driving it every day. I still stare at it when it's sitting in the garage. The one thing at work that keep me going is knowing at the end of the day I get to drive it home!! what a rush!!! So, IMHO my thrill, desire, etc. for this car has only increased with it being a daily driver. Doug
I agree with thebeerman.. and also myblue91. When I did use the Vette as a DD, I couldn't wait till quitting time., just that much more to look forward too, other than getting off of work.
Everyone as their own opinions. I for one like to drive my cars, all of them.
What I'm against are those who buy a car with the sole intention of trying to turn a profit on it.
Like the ZR1 with 65 miles on it and the guy was asking $85,000 for it(something like that).
We all know it isn't going to sell for that and the guy wonders because it is such low mileage, he was expecting a premium. If he had driven the car and enjoyed it, he still would have got half of what he paid for it down the road which is a lot more than what others would get for their cars.
Also those who have problems because they don't drive their cars often enough, that's what happened with my '93. I bought it with 36,000 miles back in 2001 and I was the 7th owner. There was so much wrong with it, I'd have been better off spending a bit more on a car with higher mileage that may have been newer(like my '95 that I got in '99).
Low miles doesn't mean a thing these days, maintainance records do.
I'd rather have a high miles well documented car than a low mileage with no documentation(only because there wouldn't be much if no maintainance is done). If an owner does the right thing and keeps up the maintainance on a garage queen, that's a different story.
For those who choose to have a weekend driver, that's fine especially if you have a job that won't allow you to drive your vette everyday.
I drive mine to work everyday and I don't have to worry about parking because a lot of my coworkers have Corvettes as well as Mercedes Benz,BMW and Porsche. Besides we all drive for a living and know how to park.
Remember what I always used to say,"More miles=more smiles"

I couldn't have said it better. I enjoy getting into my "new" car each time I get my vette out of the garage.

I own a '96 that is driven every day there isn't snow on the ground. "Concours" is not in my vocabulary, as I could never get my car ready; I am having way too much fun driving it rain or shine.
I appreciate the week-end drivers, they are taking care of the next vette I will buy after I have worn this one out. I have 90,000 miles on this one and it is still running strong, so I will probably have it for another 5-6 years and then look for a 2006 Z06.
Cheers.

<steps up on his soapobox> Each to their own. I guess I have not seen alot of the flame posts with people throwing stones at the garage queens. I for one could care less what each of you do with your cars, drive them, leave them in garage, sleep in them, put them in a cryrogenic deep freeze, whatever. I think the goal of this place is to provide a controlled (sans CFOT) media to exchange ideas, tips, frustrations, ideas, and the like. <steps down from said soapbox>
The cool thing is that most of us own or have owned a great American made sports car!!
Damn well written, beerman! My '91 hasn't even hit 30k yet, I consider myself fortunate to be able to afford the luxury of such a nice "toy". Every time I get in it, I get the same rush I did the very first day I got it.
I like most of the people on this thread drive my toy everyday it dosen't snow. Everytime I get in it I still get the same rush . I need those thrills everyday. I also have a chopper that I built myself. It is not a good daily driver. BUT , I ride that sucker every chance I get. To keep the toys on hold till the weekend or a fun run is still, to me, a waste of a good toy. But like one of the other posters said....I appreciate you caring for my next new used toy....cause I'm gonna drive the wheels off it!!!!!!!!
yes they do, but it also comes from sensible spending as well.

Pot meet kettle...
Your comment is as narrow-minded as those who you look down upon for looking down upon people like you...
My Vette serves a variety of my needs and if someone else has an issue with that, who gives a f--k...

My car had 45k miles on it when I bought it. I've had it for a little over 2.5 years, and I've added an additional 30K miles to it. I appreciate the fact that the previous owner only drove it 45K in 12 years, it just let me enjoy it more.
10 thousand miles on the 90 Coupe in 5 years and I can drive it year round. I drive it mostly on weekends. No fun driving it in rush hour traffic. Bought it at twelve years old with 126,000 miles. No regrets. Enjoy the ride...................
Drive it 1000 miles a year or 15000 miles a year doesn't bother me. I think the guys that drive them like a Corrolla are the ones that are I was talking to a guy with a C6 Z and I asked him if it would hook up in first gear. He said he's never floored it
