I plan to get and install a Valentine 1 soon, and would like to tap into the power at the rear view mirror or maybe the power wires to the visor light and install some kind of a power plug. Do the wires going to the mirror have any kind of plug or pins that you can disconnect when you take the mirror off, or is it hard wired? I've never had mine off and would like to hear from somebody that has had theirs off, before I decide which wires to start splicing into.
Been on here for 2 days now ! I guess nobody gives a hoot eh Pins? plug? Hard wired? I guess I'll have to pull it down and find out for myself.
I've seen CF posts about hard wiring the Valentine units into a C4 mirrior but I didn't feel that'd meet my need to easily move the Valentine from car to car so I tapped the hot wire just in front of the front edge of the center console that's made for this type electrical device. I then ran a 12 ft length of phone wire from there under the passenger side carpet, up the foot well and under the windshield trim molding (side and top) I left about a 6 inch piece hanging out by the mirror post and it plugs into the V1 mounted just under the mirror. To move it to wife's car I just unplug the phone wire, flip off the V1 suction mounting piece, stick it on her windshield and plug in the phone wire that's hanging by the mirror just as in the BEAST. She's then ready to go play "Barney Oldfield" with ricers, knowing that V1 will wake her when there's radar activity in her travel area.
Good luck finding the solution you are searching for...I'm sure someone will get it for you. Until then maybe my idea will help as a temp solution.
V1 has saved our bacon many times over the past 15+ years we've used them.
Good Question!
I am also about ready to install a "driver alert box" LOL
Is the wire to the mirror large enough to carry the current for this???
Hope someone answers your questions.
Welcome and dont be to frusterated. This group has answered many of my questions, frequently putting quite a bit of time in to dig up info, so hang in there, its a very good group.
Now that's what I'm talking about ! Thanks Agent 86.
I'm not afraid to boldly go where no man has gone before, but if somebody has gone there, I like to peek at thier maps first .
