Well, after some considerable debate, I agreed to let My son take my 89vette to his senior prom,
Of course he got it 5 miles from town, water pump blew, pully came loose, serpentine belt flipped off...Whats he do?..keeps driving it for a mile or more.
I mean the dash had to light up like a Christmas tree,,,,"HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM"
He finally pulls it into his friends house, battery light on, no power steering, temp gauge around 270, antifreeze overflowing......
I said...why did you keep driving the thing???
Good grief!
Well tommorrow i'll take a water pump up and swap it out, but...i'm afraid that might just be the beginning

Thanks dad, for ruining my prom night with your POS chevy. I couldn't win a single street race, then I barely get up to 140 and the damn thing boils over. You embarrassed me in front of all my friends and now my girlfriend smells like antifreeze.

HAHA, yea..I'm sure he feels bad, He's a good kid, when he said..it ONLY got to 270 on the gauge...i guess i just thought...sheeit, we need to talk about cars more often.
Houston..."we got multiple caution and warning"...."alot of thruster activity here Houston"
Hope he dont make me a grampa tonight....just to get even..
I think you are okay, good luck with the water pump change. Keep an eye on the oil for the next couple of trips. I would go ahead and change the oil as well.

im kidding... but that reminds me of the time my dad washed my grandfathers cadilac with a S.O.S pad.
I asked my dad why he uses it.. and he said "because it had soap already in it."

Yeah, I let my son take mine last year and it was relatively uneventful (as far as I know!!!). The Corvette and the kids all survived. Some of the stories of prom night tragedies make us dads thankful when we get by with a trashed water pump, a wilted corsage, and a greasy tuxedo. After repairing the old Chevy together, you guys will have a great story to remember for a long, long time....Great job, Dad!

Swaped out the water pump tonight, whats with that tension pully?? could the possibly engineer that pully closer to the crossmember?..good grief!! All seems to be ok...but we had to short change some quality work so we could get the thing out of this guys driveway.
So tommorrow i'll go over the whole thing, but i drove it home..no leaks, temp was good..no clunks, no pings, no knocks.
I did notice the idle was faster than usuall, and all the codes were still coming up on screen. Took us about 3 hours to change the pump out put it back together and drive it home.
My brother followed me home, no smoke out the pipes, so i'm cautiously optimisitic.

Glad to hear it's working out for you, my son is Five and he is likes the Corvette more than I do. I am not looking forward to him wanting to borrow my Corvette at all. I want to be the cool dad and let him drive it but I don't want it to be something I'll regret forever either. Sorry to ramble and Good Luck !!
As a younger c4 (27) owner I can remember the times when I messed up Dad's car...sounds like you handeled it well. Congrats, and thanks to all the Dads who understand!
It's not really about the car, Yes i always wanted a corvette, and so i got one. But even if this C4 isnt running 9's in the 1/4..it certainly can get away from a driver, goofing off with it.
I can replace parts all year long, There's only one Michael! And I cant replace him. Experience is our only teacher, Some get to use that knowledge, some dont.
For those dads out there...they know what i'm talking about.
