When you are makein a pass at the track or just getting it on for the hell of it in your automatic, do you manually shift through the gears of leve it in Drive?
For running the 1/4 I've experimented with both leaving it in drive and launching at 1,200 rpm and launching in 2nd, again launching at 1,200 but then shifting into drive 2/3rd down the track (at about 5,500 rpm just before the rev limiter kicks in).
I've found I'm quicker everytime with launching in 2nd

You are not launching in second, the car will LAUNCH in first gear no matter if you put it in first, second, drive or overdirve.
Leave it in OD for most driving. If I am running some really twisty backroads I might use 2nd or regular D for better control and easier on the brakes.
