I'm lovin' my QA1's too...even more so w/ the car being lowered front & rear. Actually had KYB's on it when I lowered it and drove it like that for a year or so. Although the KYB's were adequate, I'd heard great things about the QA1's and finally invested in some. Man, what a difference! These shocks are incredible and, to me, worth every penny.
FWIW...For what the OP is looking for in a shock, the KYB's should be fine.

Problem is: they aren't warranty'd against wearing out.
And when they DO wear out, as the Aard sez, it costs as much (well, within about $10) to have them rebuilt as to buy new.
Bilsteins last MANY more miles than the KYB's, but with the OP's needs, the Bilsteins would be overkill...not to mention the Koni's and the QA-1's.
Bang for your buck, get kyb. If you don't want kyb, then Bilstein would be more than adequate for what you need. If you want top of the line, get Koni Sport, QA1, or Edelbrock IAS.

Actually, I think the Bilsteins are best "bang for buck", since for $275 they will give better performance and last four times longer than KYB's that go for $175.
But, if you are on a budget, you can't always take advantage of the best bang for buck and have to go with what you can afford.
Seems to offer a set of 4 for $154 with free shipping.
Hey, do you have the Z-51 on your '84 Vette? That's what I have and I'm also looking to replace the shocks very soon. I'm thinking that with the Z-51 it would almost be a waste of the option to go with something besides the Bilsteins. Willcox has a set of Z-51 Bilsteins for $256.68 right now.
