Default throttle body cleaning

Called dealer the other day and talked to the service manager and asked him the procedure for cleaning the throttle body on a 91, TPI and he stated to use 2+2 gum cutter, with the engine running, like the old carb cleaning procedure we use to do. I asked if it would do any harm and he stated ,no harm. So I am asking for other suggestions from the form was the service manager correct? Thank you
Frank

You should remove the TB and IAC motor pintle and do the job properly.

I use Valvoline Synthetic TB cleaner, a large plastic bowl, some shop towels and a toothbrush.

You can check the C4 TechTips Section on this Forum for the how-to info.

Really mellows the base idle and improves throttle response, too.

remove the tb as a whole and then clean it.

Default all clean

I pulled the TB and cleaned it and the IAC. Been waiting for new gaskets(no one seemed to have them). Now that they are here, should I put them on dry or seal them with something?

Dry is fine, mine do not "leak" at all.

You should apply a dollop of motor oil to the gasket to ensure an airtight seal. I believe it says so in the FSM.
