Just a little story for all.
My son and I took a nice long drive in the Vette('84 C4)today. We passed 3 Vettes along the way, 2 C5s and 1 C4. I did "the wave" to each of them and how many "waved" back? One........the C4. I have never had a C5 wave back at me.....why?
We had a blast on our little trip, enjoyed the beautiful drive along the coast, enjoyed each others company and had alot of fun just driving.
Save the Wave!
The other Vettes may not have waved due to many circumstances:
Fiddling with the radio....
Looking at the scenery....
Dealing with traffic......
Bottom line....
Wave if ya see'em, any waves you get in return are
Bottom Bottom line:
Your ride with your son is the most important thing....
but you already knew that.
Sometimes I miss returning a wave for any number of reasons.
Yer son is more important.
I agree. I've missed waving back b/c of all of these reasons. And sometimes I realize I've missed as just going bye and I feel bad I didn't return the wave.
It's a great recognition and tribute to our passion...
I totally agree with you guys. We had a great time and thats what its all about! But I'll tell ya, My son was so excited that we got a wave back! It was funny. He is 14 an the BIGGEST Corvette lover I have ever seen! It's very cool!
Thanks guys!
IMO there are still plenty of temporary C5 owners who do not know what the wave is nor care. Their C5 is a means of getting a women or dealing with a mid life crisis. It usally lasts about a year or two before they give it up. Be patient, the wave is still very alive to true Corvette enthusiasts.
I did a little experiment last summer while leaving Corvettes at Carlisle.
It was Friday afternoon, about 6PM. I was stuck in a traffic jam and the oncoming traffic had dozens of Vettes, [maybe a hundred] of all generations.
I rested my left hand on my outside rear view mirror and flicked a wave to each Corvette that passed on the other side of the road.
Results: The C1, C2, C3 and C4 drivers all returned the wave. Only about half of the C5 & C6 drivers returned the wave.
I always wave at every Corvette I see on the road, and when I see them wave and I can't wave in time or am messing with something, I feel bad about it.
I wave at them all.I also forget and wave at them when I'm driving the jag or the explorer.Funny thing is I get more waves back from C5/6's when I'm in the other cars!! Perhaps they think it's someone they know and wave automatically!!
When I first bought my Corvette I thought the wave was an isolated event. The more I drive now, the more I see other Corvette owners waving. I always try to waveback and feel bad when I am unable to. Something about getting the wave from other Corvette lovers always makes me happy.
The first one I bought in 1983 took me all of about one day to figure out that isn't wasn't people I knew, but the car itself that other Vette owners were acknowledging.
I waved at a new Z06 the other day that a 20 something year old was driving. He looked right at me, and nothing. Then I noticed he was wearing driving gloves..........................that pretty much explained everything
Well i happen to have both gens and i wave at every corvette, even the fugly looking ones, so don't say all c5 owners are going through a mid-life crisis. I am just over compensating for small genatalia.

Too bad he didn't stop to talk. You could've asked him how a 20 year old gets $80,000 to buy a car.

When I worked in the maintainace dept. of the local Bus Co, I'd get a good laugh out of the **** drivers who would wear the driving gloves.
I Just don't understand that. 20 ton plus vehicle = driving gloves?
