Default Wheel question

Howdy all i have a quick question... after doing searches on the forum i found out that i should be able to "fit" 17x11 wheels and 315s on the rear of my '85. After talking to my friend he told me a story of putting bigger wheels on a car of his, they "fit" , but after a month or so of the body bottoming out onto the tire it blew. My question is, even though getting the zr-1's with the 11inch rear and 315 tires, will i have any problem with the body or anything else rubbing on the tires to cause any tire problems. My car is a normal 1985 corvette(non ZR-1) and the wheels are 38mm offset and 6.5in backspacing with 315s on them. Any advice would be great befor i buy these and find out later that they will be problemsome..Thanks!!

Please be advised that the 84-87 Vette has a 38mm Offset, and that will limit your wheel choices considerably - unless you use adapters, which is never recommended (and will add up to $200 to your wheel purchase). I recently upgraded the stock 16" (x 8.5) wheels on my 1986 to 17 x 9.5. I found coreect fitting ZR-1 Replicas at FactoryReproductions.com (EBay auction) and really like them. My tire choice was the Maaxis MA V1 in 275/40/R17. The ride is sooooo much better and so much quieter. My advice to you: Chevy didn't put an 11" wide wheel or 315's on the 1985, and neither should you.

(FYI - there are no 1985 ZR-1's. The first ZR-1's (for public sale) debuted in 1990, a $27,016 option)

I have 17" ZR-1 replicas on my car....its the blue one in my avatar. I think they came from Ecklers. I run Nitto DR 315/35s and I have never had a problem with them hitting. If you want I can dig up the part number, or take some photos or measurements, because they do have offsets, especially the rear.

I think the bigger tire makes the car look completely different and...well they hook up! My other vette smokes the tires so bad that its silly.

PS my car is actually an 85....its just got the bumper and fender update package...and a crate motor...and the wheels and tires...and a wing...and a paint job.

Correction...the wheels came from AFS wheels
17 X 9.5 +38mm Kumho 275/40
17 X 11 +36.5mm Nitto 315/35

Hey Bro.....the new wheels and tires look great! So what do you think of the tires?

I think it is a great tire but then again, what do I know. Much debate can be gathered when making a tire choice and seeking an opinion from fellow forum members. It all depends on what you want your tires to do for you. Given the way I drive my Corvette, the Maaxis MA V1 was a great tire choice.

I have always believed that low cost does not always equal low quality. There are $300 tires and there are $100 tires. It just all depends on what you want.

And it was your recommendation that directed my choice. Thanks.
