Pull ALL your electrical off ASAP. Put everything in your oven at 250 and bake it for 8 hours. I had a flood years ago and had a friend who worked at a motor rewind shop. Took his advice. My tools are still working today, and the flood was over 15 years ago. ZR1 Fred is correct with your engine.

I live down here reasonably close to the thread starter. We had about 16-18 inches of rain in a weeks time where i live. The lake raised 16 feet and is the highest its been in 38 years. Just about everything in the marina is ruined because like a previous poster said, the docks and such are anchored to the ground and the boats are anchored to them so you can imagine what happened to everything out there. From what i heard the marina owner cut alot of the lines so he could save some owners boats and such. The lake is closed to everybody so i havent been able to see it but from what im told there were boats just floating around aimlessly because they had been cut loose and saved. Theres roads 10 feet under water in some parts where i live. Its pretty crazy stuff.

I hope you get it back up and running and the damage is as minimal as possible. Thankfully it seems that the rain has finally stopped for a while so mabe we can dry out.

If you were not able to work on the engine for several weeks, then draining the fluids and filling the engine with diesel would help. I the "old days", diesel fuel and home heating oil were one and the same, just different dyes added to the fuel for TAX purposes. Diesel is a form of oil and would keep the engine from rusting up....but you would have to fill everything, crankcase until it came out the dip stick tube, whatever you can get to stay in the valve covers, down the intake and pull the spark plugs and pour it into the cylinders......

The down side of doing this is getting rid of the diesel once you start to work on the engine. You will have to fully drain the crankcase etc. Just may as well pull the engine out of the boat and pull it apart down to the bare block, clean it up and reassemble.

Save your self some trouble and start working on the engine ASAP.
