Default Header wrap, Good or Bad?

I was just reading a post about headers and this came up. I just burnt through my second set of wires in less than 6 months... I wanted to wrap them (Hedman Elites) but was told by most everyone I talked to. Can I just wrap them where the wires come close? Or can I wrap the whole header? Any thoughts????

The consensus is they cause metal fatigue early and rust out quicker.

That's what I've always heard.

Where are they burning thru?

On my install, the shop heat wrapped my plug wires.

You could heat shield your wires instead. I installed heat shield tubes to mine to protect them from EGR tube heat but same principle will work in your case too.

Why not send your headers out to be ceramic coated? That would probably cure your heat melting woes.

If they are Headman Elites they are already coated.

Your best bet is to buy the shielding material that slips over the boots and covers about six inches to allow the wire to pass by the header. I also use several plastic plug wire looms. You can get them to hold two, three or four wires. I installed my looms and shields and have had no problem with melting and I too have Headman Elites.

My ceramic coating still burns my wires.

The shield works to a certain extent. It will protect them but after prolong contact, even with the shields the rubber will still dry out and rot from the heat. Its still not a bad buy though. I suggest it. Your best bet is the looms and not let the wires touch at all, if possible.

I guess that's what I'll try with the present wires... cross your fingers

I was there once. Coated my headers and all is solved... Makes a huge difference. Go ahead and Jet-Hot coat them now and you will be pleased, and save money... because eventually it will be your cure.
