Your problem seems to be almost guaranteed to occur on a 96.
Do a search for the fix

The problem is with the control unit that is under the dash on the drivers side. The soft rubber nipples the vacuum hoses attach to collapse under load. The fix is to replace the unit with a '95 or cut about 1/2" off the nipples. If you do a search for AC vents here you will get a much more detailed explanation including posts with pics on how to do the job. Great car BTW.

Ahh yes, I have the same problem with mine. First of all, check your vacuum hoses on the passenger side of the engine intake manifold for any that are loose and/or broken. This vacuum source tube goes thru the firewall on the passenger side and on to a vacuum manifiold way (and I mean way, way back) under your drivers side dash. It is an absolute pain to get to. It is located to the far upper right of the accelerator against the firewall. This manifold acts as a vacuum circuit selector for the damper actuators. When you select which position you want, the associated coil will energize (I think there are 5 of them in this module) which will direct the vacuum source on to the selected damper actuator, thus opening or closing them. Saw a previous post on this and saw the modules were in the $700 range and did not persue it anymore. Besides, my A/C works and will keep me cool if absolutely needed. Really don't like to run the A/C anyway. I would rather have the windows down.

Sorry I didn't intend on being rude. Yes the problem seems to be with the controller up under the dash on the drivers side above the gas pedal. I have lived with mine for blowing wrong for 2 years now, too fat and lazy to fix so far. As I understand the problem with the controler can be fixed without buying a new one some of the forum members have posted the fix, I just can't find it. I believe if you search under air conditioner vents you will find what you need.

Congrats on the new ride!! Nice choice.

My CE has a similar problem with the AC. When I first turn it on, it blows out the defrost and heater vents. After about 2 minutes, it corrects itself and flows out the proper vents. I'm not going to bother to fix it until it ceases correcting itself.

Thank you ... That and a couple other points made will at least get him on the right track.
