Ok so my '88 C4 had the ses light come on a few weeks back though the light didnt stay on. It came on a few days ago so I took it to the shop. They said it had a history of the 1 code-being the maf sensor.
In my other thread I mentioned that I was having a start up problem with the car which Im hoping was caused by the maf. It usually takes a couple tries for the car to start though the engine does turn over. But after a few tries it always starts. I've noticed after letting the car sit overnight it will start right up the next morning.
Anyways Im going to replace the maf sensor. What would be a good aftermarket brand to go with??
IM having the same starting problem with my 88. I don't think its the MAF.I jst had a full tune up and injector change, its better but it still does the same thing, starts then konks right out once, maybe twice, then starts, but I do notice a woshing sound when she starts up that is not there when it dies. Im checking for vacuum leaks.

If its a bad MAF the car wouldnt start unless you unplug that MAF connector.
Sound to me your problem isnt a MAF sensor but may want to check the relays or MAF connector itself.
If you do decide to buy a new MAF I wouldnt go with a aftermarket.
I would replace if with what it came with only (OEM) Bosch.
Make sure your throttle body and iac valve are clean. I kept getting MAF codes and my TB was filthy. Cleaned it and the iac and now it runs and starts great.
Turns out the car has a bunch of vacuum leaks and wil be at the shop til next week. Dammit this is gonna be pricey too though I do want her running right. I miss her already!
I had the same problem, replaced the MAF and still a Chek engine light.
Went to the book and took it to my mechanic and he replaced two sensors, (one showed a fluctuation on testing) NO Problems since. Even starts O.K.
