Oh and if you need the info on where I got the new ones here is my original posthttp://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?p=1561075509#post15610755 09
Having the charged strut from a newer vette is the cats ***. Maybe if I got the new little guys, I could just pull the lever and my hood would fly open. No, that's no fun, I like to pull the lever with my right hand while the left lifts the hood out of the latch.
Maybe I should adjust that part first, then buy them little buggers.
does anybody make a pair of gas charged shock that fully supports the hood without the need of the long prop rod mounted on the drivers side of the engine bay?

The two small ones actually totally support my hood. Since they are new, however this will surely change. Also, I wouldn't want to trust them to support that huge hood in a wind. I think some kind of safety prop or latch would be a necessity. My '86 has the right hand scissors hood prop and I'm glad it does.
I used a C-Clamp to compress mine and hold them in while I installed them. Worked like a champ. I purchased them from NAPA Auto parts. They weren't very expensive and do help some. My car didn't come with them from the factory, but I thought that I would try them.

you don't happen to have the part number from them do ya?
i just pulled mine off to test this, and they do offer some resistance to compress them, but there is no real difference with having them on, and having them off when lifting the hood on my 84
New hood struts are in. These things are incredibly stiff. What a difference. They literally hold the hood open under their own pressure. The hood opens very easy now.
