If it's like my 87, and I think it is, yes. Take off the fuel door, (4 torx screws in the black plastic base), then pull out the rubber boot around the fill tube. You'll see 3 hoses and a bunch of screws in a plate. They are 10mm screws. Take off the hoses, take out the screws and the assembly lifts out. Do a search, lots of posts on this, including mine, I just did one this weekend.

Easiest Fuel pump in the west. New one takes about an hour, if you take a beer break, no smoke breaks over an open fuel tank please.

Hardest part is removing the hoses and hose clamps. Otherwise, it is a one beer operation, really easy.

Mine had the screw on clamps on 2 of the 3 hoses. Those compression clamps are a joy when you can't get at them. I used a needle nose and a flat blade to compress and move the clamp, then I replaced it with a screw type when putting it back together.

Speaking of needle nose, a forum member suggested using the needle nose on the end of the hose to push it off of the tube. Works great!

Also, I live in Ohio, so there was rust on the plate. I soaked it with some PB blaster the night before I did the job.

This poses a question I have.
Did the factory use pinch clamps or screw clamps on the output?
My illistrated parts book shows screw clamps, but that could be for replacement. If the factory used pinch clamps, does that mean if your pump has screw clamps,it's been replaced?

The output line was a screw clamp on mine, and everything on my car was what came from the factory.

Our 89 was the easiest in tank fuel pump I have done to date. One hour tops. We used a A/C delco. I have heard with others you had to make more mods.

Most use AC/Delco. I went with an Edelbrock high output, not because I needed it, but because it's what Summit Racing had, (I live about 15 miles from their HQ). So, I paid a little extra for the Edelbrock, but it came with a sock, and was a direct replace. Summit had the AC/Delco, but no sock for it.
Had do go to a dealer for the gasket, so I could have just got the whole thing at once from the dealer! Oh well, it works, that's what matters.

I used Edelbrock, the only mod was using a cable, (supplied in the kit), to connect the pump to the electrical connector. Not ideal, but not a lot of fussing.

Don't forget to replace the sock, depending in where you purchase it may come seperate.

It's pretty much self explanitory once you remove the gas lid and rubber boot. Replace that sock and strainer while your in there. You may want to remove the pulsator/dampner while your there and replace it with a rubber hose and clamps. Also, you may want to clean the fuel gauge sending unit while your in there. There is a step by step procedure in the C4 tech tips for that.

I did notice it's not a real positive connection. I still need to buy a fuel pressure gauge.

What do you think of installing an AFPR? Is it worth it to dial up the pressure some?
