Guys, I almost became a human milkshake in a pile of fiberglass Saturday night. I was first at a red light, center lane, my view was abstructed on the L and R. Pink Floyd "Comfortably Numb" came on the radio and I cranked it up, sank into the seat and rested my gaze a little. The light turned green, and I was just slightly zoned out for about 3-4 seconds. The guy behind me gave a gentle toot of his horn and I sprang back to reality, just touched the gas,,,,,,,WHEW! A gigantic Escalade ran the light and passed in front of me at about 60 mph, just one foot from my front end. Had I not zoned out on that song, I would have most likely moved forward at the change of the light and would either be dead or telling this story to my personal injury lawyer.
NOTE TO SELF: Always, ALWAYS look both ways before moving forward.
Pink Floyd fan for life,,,,DD
From my aviation days, we called it "swivel neck", ya never focus on one thing, your head is always moving and eyes are always scaning everything, every direction you can see. It's what you don't see is whats gonna gitcha.
I was driving across the bridge one day with the top down going to eat lunch across the lake with a friend from work in the passenger seat. I passed an 18 wheeler. Two seconds later we see him in my rear view mirror loose control and head off the side of the bridge. The cab was hanging completely off the side with the rear of the truck still on the bridge. Looked like something you would see in a movie. Luckily later on the news I heard everyone was OK. I had some other work people following that were stuck behind the truck for two hours. I consider that a pretty close call for me.
I had another close one on the interstate one day. After Katrina crap was all over the road from the construction. I was following behind a large delivery truck and it rolled over a full sheet of plywood and kicked it up in the air. It flew straight at my windshield but I swerved and it only hit the bottom section before my front passenger side tire. Only made a couple of small scratches. Had I been driving a car with ****ty handling it would have gone through my windshield. This happened to my work friend in his truck about two months later when plywood flew off the back of another truck and went through his windshield on the same bridge from the story above.
Luckily I haven't been in a real accident in about 9 or 10 years. Glad to hear your OK. Be careful out there.
