Guys, I almost became a human milkshake in a pile of fiberglass Saturday night. I was first at a red light, center lane, my view was abstructed on the L and R. Pink Floyd "Comfortably Numb" came on the radio and I cranked it up, sank into the seat and rested my gaze a little. The light turned green, and I was just slightly zoned out for about 3-4 seconds. The guy behind me gave a gentle toot of his horn and I sprang back to reality, just touched the gas,,,,,,,WHEW! A gigantic Escalade ran the light and passed in front of me at about 60 mph, just one foot from my front end. Had I not zoned out on that song, I would have most likely moved forward at the change of the light and would either be dead or telling this story to my personal injury lawyer.
NOTE TO SELF: Always, ALWAYS look both ways before moving forward.
Driving for a living I learned long ago to look both ways even after a light turns green and to always remember to not assume you know what anyone is going to do next.
Those moments are a little strange, eh? Ever wonder why something stupid keeps you an extra minute from leaving the house on time and then en route you see something like that...Wasnt your time.
One more reason not to be the first to shoot off from a light through the intersection
With the amount of time you were "zoned out" if you had gone on green it would have been the guy behind you who got creamed. I'll bet he is thanking his lucky stars
Similar situation happend to me on my scoot once...Some guy came up to me and started talking to me about my scoot at a red light. We were talking and didn't notice the light had turned. lady behind us gave a nice toot on the horn. Just as I said later and kicked down to first, a car blew through the light. We just looked at each other like OMFG! Things happen for a reason
When I moved from LA to Phoenix my car insurance went UP, I called the insurance company (my thought 13 million in LA and 4 million in Phoenix) why would the rates go up. Phoenix, Mesa, and Tuscon, are ranked 1,2,3,(highest) for red light T-Bone fatalities in the United States. People do not stop for red lights they speed up, it's scary driving in Phoenix.
I hear ya, the incident was at 24th st and Indian School in Phoenix. It is ranked as one of the highest fatality intersections in the U.S., and there I was, not lookin both ways. Silly me.
With the amount of time you were "zoned out" if you had gone on green it would have been the guy behind you who got creamed. I'll bet he is thanking his lucky stars
That's exactly what I was thinking. You saved the life of the guy behind you. Your timing was impeccable.

I had a somewhat similar experience last weekend. Was driving in the left hand lane, when a full size Dodge Ram Quad Cab pickup decides he wants to turn into my lane, into a hardware store. Chick driving doesn't look, just pulls right into the lane, forces me onto the wrong side of the road, had to accelerate heavily in front to get out of the way of oncoming traffic. I honk as I'm going by, and the lady gives me a look like WTF....she didn't see me, I'm sure! I'm lucky there was no oncoming traffic!
