Seems every car I have ever owned has a non working cigarette lighter. Same with my 1996 C4. I need this power source for a phone charger as well as an fm transmitter. How are the cigarette lighters fixed? What is most likely the prob lem?

1st= check fuse.
2nd= check for loose ground connection on lighter receptacle and make sure the positive is plugged into the lighter socket.
3rd=replace the lighter socket.

*you might have to take the console apart to get to all the wires* I'm not exactly sure about yours since mine is an '88*

Good advise here and a logical approach. I noticed on my socket is sometimes is loose (turns) make sure the female socket end has not turned. THis is what causes a loose wire
