Default 85 L98 Operating Temp

What is considered normal operating temp for an '85 L98 with no engine mods? Mine seems to run between 188-230 with no boil overs or other problem indicators.

L98's run inherently higher than the later models. Your temps are perfectly fine.

I also have an '85; mine runs a little cooler, usually between 170 and 210, but according to the owners manual, the range you have is normal.

That's the range our 85 seems to run in also.

Thanks for the info. Now if can I just figure out the reason behind the rubber grommet that is covering the nipple on the top heater line. surely that thing is going to give way. It has a clamp on it, but I don't know if that's how it came or someone just made a temporary fix.
