Default Engine fire pics

My wife works for the city, and one of their news reporters captured some outstanding pics of a C4 engine fire. I hope this isn't the car of anybody on this board!! Read the captions too, they are witty! Enjoy. Click here for pics.

[CSS996 considers purchasing a fire extinguisher, and is happy that his wife does not drive a stick....]

Yeah, that should buff right out!

Fiberglass and fire just dont go together! Would that be called a flame red color? Ha. On the serious side though, what a loss that would be and how sick I would be watching mine burn up like that. What a shame. It appeared to be in pretty good shape, the top etc I noticed.

I would bet a bad fuel leak that sprayed, ignited and spread quick! I wouldnt think wiring would short out, melt, and ignite everything that quickly.

I keep an approved auto type extinguisher in each of our five cars because like you've seen here and corvettedan22 told you above..."U never know". As a Corvette driver if you don't have one on board you should get one, as the car you save may be your own! There ought to be a law about it and extinguishers made "standard equipment" in all new cars.

I'll bet this is what VtVette was talking about a couple of weeks ago, the steel fuel lines on the front of the engine have a small section of rubber hose, and that hose can break.

Man, that's a bummer! I've lost 2 cars to engine fires over the years - hmmmm, maybe a fire extinguisher isn't a bad idea.....

I've only lost one- but did get it back eventually, and I had a fire extinguisher.

Only helped a little. Circa 1990. Car started on fire when I started it up. After emptying the extinguisher, I had to push the car out of the garage, and ended up throwing shovels full of snow on the carb to douse the flames (actually smoothered it out).

Ended up having a new wiring harness, repainted front end, plastic moldings, computerized carb ('82 Firebird-carb caused the fire, so insurance didn't cover it, my cost=$750.00 for the part, plus $500 deductible), Interior cleaned of smoke damage. 3 weeks in the shop to boot, but at least we got the car back, and I saved the garage and attached house.

So yeah, I'd say they're a good investment.

Oh that made me sick to my stomach, I hate seeing cars on fire especially red C4's. Well time to buy a new fire extinguisher.

A couple of years ago I watched a viper burn to the ground in about 10 minutes. I'm saying after 10 minutes, the frame was sitting on rims, the body/interior was gone! If someone came along 10 minutes after it started, they would have had no idea what what the car was. I think these firefighters had a very fast response.

One of the dumber things I did in my life. I had a 1927 Ford pickup all chopped down,3foot bed. I had just had it all painted, it had 350 chevy headers. The day before because the motor and headers were open on the side, I noticed a little scum in the settling glass bowl so I took it off and cleaned it.You guessed it I got sidetracted and forgot to put it back. Cranked engine about 20 seconds and BOOM. Luckly their was a fire Ex near but not before all wires burnt and paint ruined. Started all over again
