I need to replace the front shocks for sure. Should I go ahead and replace the rears at the same time?(54K miles)
What kind should I buy? Original equipment or aftermarket? I don't drive it very hard, but I may do a little AutoX in the future.
My car is a stock '94 6 speed coupe.
Thanks in advance, Jeff.
You can get a set of 4 Bilsteins for $275-$280 if you shop around. A lot of people like those, they are the stock "performance" shock. I have the TPIS shocks which for the life of me look like Gabriel shocks, Myron swears they are custom valved for him, but who knows for sure. Those cost me $180. I think my car handles great, but the old ones were totally, 100%, shot and useless. The TPIS shocks are marketed as a "softer" ride, which they defintely are, but for my driving they are fine, especially with new poly bushings.
You can spend of to $500-$600 for custom valved. adjustable shocks, or as little as $19 ea @ Sears or AutoZone, you just need to decide what kind of ride you want, and how much you wanna pay.
Summit has KYB shocks for less than $30 each. I got those upon recommendations here on the Forum & have been quite pleased. I was careful when I removed the original Bilsteins and plan to have them revalved at the factory, but for the time being, the KYB's are doing fine.
I just bought the KYB Gas-A-Just shocks from Summit, they were $27.95 each for KG5570 (fronts) and same price for KG5571 (rears) for my 94. Pretty decent price for Corvette parts in my opinion.
