umm my overdrive is acting all kinds of funky. it likes to turn itself on.. a lot. the main time is when I shift from 1st to 2nd it will turn on, I hit the overdrive button and it turns off then 3rd gear shift works but sometimes the 4th gear shift it turns itself back on again. I turn it off and shift to 1st for a light, repeat. Now if I don't turn off OD in 2nd and 3rd it will turn off when I goto 4th.
I have the 4+3 early one with the overdrive on the button btw.
It sounds like you have the button in the shift ****. On the bottom side of the shifter is a switch. You might check to see if the switch is intermittant or something wrong with the actuator. I moved mine to a toggle switch on the console and it works great.
While you're at it change the OD fluid and filter, unless you've done it recently. The seal around the pan goes bad from sitting in atf all the time and they tend to be low on fluid. doubt that would cause the switching on condition but it was the cause of my problems with the OD acting goofy.

thanks for the tip but i forgot to mention I got the whole overdrive serviced while the new clutch was going in...
There are so many parameters that control the OD unit........speed, temp etc that it can be tough to nail down a problem. I just picked mine up last week after having the OD completely rebuilt. Mechanically it's great but it still goes into OD the first time the engine temp hits 123. Once I trun it off it works fine.
There is a thread here in archives that details how to turn it into a completely manual OD that you may find interesting. Other then that I'd have to agree about the relay.
