Default engine start time

Hey Guys,

I have a question about engine start time on 91. Is it normal to take about four seconds to start the engine after not being started for three or four days.

Thanks!

My 88 takes that long to start at first when cold each day. It was in storage for 4 years before I got it 3 months ago and I haven't tuned it up yet. My DD's start much faster so maybe I will change the plugs first and work from there.:o

The electric fuel pump could take a few seconds to get going. If it's very quiet turn the key to "on" (not start). You'll hear a very faint buzz (that's the fuel pump). Count to three then hit start. It should fire right away.

I hope I have this in the correct order....When you turn the key and engage the starter the ecm looks for fuel pressure, then it looks for a minimum oil pressure (I forget the number). If it gets good readings on both it will then order spark to the engine. You can check the pressure at the fuel rails after the car has set for a couple of days to see if it is leaking down but really 4 seconds isn't long enough to mess with IMO.
