all depends on where its located. i have a 94 lt1 and i tried it myself, burnt my fingers, took it too the dealer, said its too heard to get to the top bolt. then to jiffy lube as a owell i dont care anymore, said its too hard, then to my best friends house whos dad does cars for a living had it off in 30 mins and the new one on in 5. but mines under the passengers seat and RIGHT next to the cat. we put it on ramps and it was no biggie
My fuel filter is located on the right side of the car under the passenger door I will give it a try. I read in my manual that I have to pull the fuel pump fuse and crank engine over untill all fuel is out of line.
Believe the instructions when they tell you to: Do this with an almost empty tank, remove the gas cap, raise the front as much as you can, drain the lines, be ready for some spill. If not done correctly this can be a major, dangerous pain in the behind.
On my 92 it was terrible! It took weeks for the skin on my arms to heal! It would have helped if I had known about the O rings that go on each end. Couldn't get it to stop leaking
There are two methods to minimize the effort. I could not loosen my top but either on the filter. Changing the filter with the starter removed makes it do-able. Changed my filter when the starter went bad, that’s how I know.
But the other way is to loosen the bottom bolt of the filter and disconnect the fuel line on top of the engine. I would have done that method earlier but you need the special separation tool which I did not have at that time.
Our 89 was not that bad. Under the right side of car, behind wheel. Remove fuel pump fuse, start car, it runs for a few seconds, chock the back wheels, jack up the front, put jack stands under car, take off old one, put on new one. Our old one was pretty blocked. Take car off jack stands, remove chock behind rear wheels. Put fuel pump fuse back in there you go. I know I should have dis-connect the battery.....but I did not. Did this outside on driveway NOT IN GARAGE! Wasn't feeling THAT crazy!
