I have found a cutom Whistler Alarm system in my C4. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this type of system. I would like to remove it. It doesn't work and was real a crappy job.
Those can be such a can of worms. They could tie into the starter, horn, etc. If you start pulling wires, you could end up with a nightmare. Your choices (if you can't find a manual) are leave it alone or track down every wire connected.
I discovered a really crappily installed Alpine alarm system in mine a few years after I bought it.
Do what i did.
Just trace the wires out. Wherever they spliced into another wire, pull the alarm wire off and reconnect the stock wires together with a butt connector. if there is already a butt connector there splicing the alarm in, just snip out the alarm's wire. Make sure if any wire is showing out of the sheath, to cover it with some electical tape or something so it won't ground out on anything when you cram it all back up in the dash.
It took me about 30+ mins to totally remove the one that was in mine. The main issue I had was that the starter wire was cut. I had to tug on it a little to get enough slack to connect it back together with a butt connector, but aside from that, all the other wires were very small thin wires with enough slack to reconnect everything with no issues after I removed the alarm's wires.
BIG TIP: Do ONE AT A TIME. Trace one wire, pull it out, reconnect stock wire, then move on to the next one until the alarm is completely free from the car.
You got good advice from GIJoe! I can understand installing an alarm if your car never had one, but for the life of me I don't understand why you don't just fix the alarm that came with the car! If your left headlight stops working would you install another headlight next to it?
