My 94 LT1 with 70,000 miles started acting strange this weekend. I have only had the car two months so I don't have a good feel for how is runs under different circumstances. The engine has always run a little rough at idle. Here are the symptoms. In 6th gear under 60 MPH if I floor the throttle the engine bucks severely. This weekend I noticed that the engine would start to break down when I ran the car up to 4,000 RPM. It feels like the engine is cutting out. I have not done anything to the ignition system since I purchased the car. I believe it came with platinum plug that are supposed to last 100,000 miles. I would assume the wires and plugs are origonal as is the optispark system I would appreciate opinions on where to start looking first. Thanks.
Before you do anything, change the fuel filter. It could be alot of things, but I'd start with the fuel system. Check the pressure. then the ignition module. Unless you have water/antifreeze dripping on the optispark, I'd leave that for last.
I agree. Do a major tune up since you have only had the car a short time. Fuel filter, plugs, wires, ect.
My 92 M6 does not buck in 6th at all. The only thing I have noticed is a little knocking when doing around 50 mph in 6th. I usually don't shift to 6th until after 70 mph.
At night, open the hood and disconnect the hood lights. Have a spray bottle with water handy. Start the engine and see if you notice sparks. Use the water and spray on the plug wires and coil wire to help intensify it.
