Picture yourself sitting in the drivers seat. Right where the AC vent piece connects to the shifter piece where the climbate control is located there should be two screws holding it on facing towards the firewall. Anyway, on the right side there is this small square piece of metal. I guess you could say its a bracket and it holds the screw in when you put it thru the hole because it has a hole in it as well so the thread of the screw locks into it. On the left side, there is no bracket and nothing for the screw to connect to. Does anyone know where I can get this 1/4 inch metal bracket?
Second quiestion, on the drivers side door where the handle is on the inside. There is two screws that goes in there. Mines loose and I realized because there was nothing for the screws to connect into and I can't figure out what is suppose to be in there. If I get those 20 plastic arm rest savers, will that hold the screw in better. Passenger side door handle is nice and tight. Thanks guys/gals.
This quiestion pertains to the inside of the actual door. When I hit the lock button in the car and close the door, I pull on the handle and it unlocks and the alarm goes off. If I insert the key and lock it that way, it stays locked. I have to do it on both sides now but it used to be just the passenger side. Any ideas on what is messed up in there? I took off the door panel and looked in there with a flash light and theres not much to see but alot of wires and lots of dirt.
One last quiestion. I know you guys are happy for this. On the drivers side, the window zooms up quickly. The passenger side is slowing down more and more. It takes a good 8 seconds for it to go up. Is it the motor going bad? They are like 350 new from the magazines.
Edit: This is the last quiestion. On the drivers side, where the top piece of plastic is and there is a mini air vent which keeps your windows from fogging up, that whole plastic strip wont stay on. Is there not suppose to be something holding it on? Can I get a permanent fix because it is around 60 dollars and the piece is still good. Gorilla glue?
Sorry,I think I can maybe help you with the next to the last question only if yours is an 86 early, and has the plastic ribbons.Get yourself some white lithium grease in a spray can.Next get about 2 feet of 1/8" copper tubing.Get a flashlight, slide the tubing down the window opening and aim for the white ribbon.Insert the red tube of spray can into said tubing. Now,spray the hell out of it(it helps if two people do this, one to hold and aim the tubing, and one to push the spray can).Hit the motor gear too if you can. This helped mine alot.

Ok. I don't know if this would pertain to that but when I roll down the windows and close the door, the windows rattle like its hitting something. Also, the passenger side shakes when its going up. Kind of side to side. Is there a way to tighten up the windowns on there lifter or am I just stuck with the rattling. I don't think its the bumpers either in there. Saw them for sale. It's the actual window. Even when its up you can wiggle it a little bit.

It screws to the door panel from the bottom. If yours is cracked like mine then you may need to look at replacing the door panels which is around $400 for a pair.

Not cracked. Just hanging off. It looks like there is yellow adhesive, quite old, underneath and I figured it was adhesive. I thought I could just glue it back down. Yea, my door panels are starting to peel off. The ones I found at Ecklers don't have the speaker holes cut out that. How would you go about doing that? 400 dollars is very quite expensive though.
If your talking about the top trim of the door panel,it is held on with stamped nuts. The plastic, what would you call them?points, nibs, have probibly broken off. There was enought meat left on mine,to turn the stamped nut over, and get a bit on the plastic nibs, and then I slathered them with black abs glue. They have so far held.If there is not enought meat, you are going to have to get creative. But no way would I spring that kind of dough for new panels and trim. You have the technology to rebuild them, good luck.
I think I got you covered on two of your questions. The question about a screw not holding, what I did is purchase an interior screw kit from the internet $20.00 and used an oversized screw...did the trick.
Your last question/edit about the piece near the vent is loose. Yes, use any adhesive you have..."gorilla glue, works just fine".
When you find a trim/panel screw that won't hold or there is nothing visible for it to grab to, it's probably because it's missing the U clip in behind. You may also find that the plastic that the U clip is supposed to slip on, is broken off. The screws you mentioned, all use a U clip.
Your local auto parts supplier should have the correct U clips.
