I know you can buy chemicals in the auto parts stores now to spray on battery terminals (I even have a can of it in the ol' toolbox) to get 'em cleaned up. I'm 40 and have known about the Coke trick most of my life.
I didn't have much money growing up (still don't) so we did things like this when doing repairs.
I have heard about the egg thing before (never tried it though) but never heard about the asprin in the battery.
I'll be 30 for the 20th time in January.
We used to joke about the "Coke thing", saying that if it's doing that to the battery terminals, what the hell does it do to the inside of your stomach!!!

Well, where's the challenge in that?

I have an old Model A Ford repair book that mentions putting the egg in the radiator. Been around a long time. Egg flows in the water, gets to the leak, heats up against the metal and solidifies. Haven't tried it, never will but it makes sense.

im from rural PA, and I have heard of the egg in the radiator. infact my stepdad used to do that in his junky 78 camaro.
it suposedly goes like this,
you crack a egg and pour it in the radiator, the egg white, not yellow. the hot water in the system "boils the egg white" and it flows around the system till it eventually clogs up the hole in the radiator.

I doubt it would work for verry long, when preassure builds up I bet it would get pushed out of the hole.

-army quickfix field guide, peeing in the radiator, hahahaha thats soo funny! hahahaha.

Wonder if that fix started before thermostats were used. Id think that would plug one up quick.

I never understood the whole "radiator sealer" thing...aren't there a whole bunch of small passages throughout the engine that would plug up as a result of this stuff?

I heard that a banana into the oil filler will vastly improve oil pressure. And I know for a fact that a potatoe (large) shoved into the exhaust pipe (way up, use a stick) will disable a school bus.

I heard that a banana shoved up ones piehole increases backpressure, too.

Any of the aforementioned quick fixes for the cooling system should be considered temporary. It's just to get you down the road until you can fix it right in a more suitable venue.

I've heard that very same thing! And a bar of hand soap would probably have the same effect but if you find your gas tank has sprung a leak, try rubbing on the soap and it should seal right up. How long will the repair last? Years ago, it got me and my "hand me down" 1970 Olds Vistacruiser from Rolla, MO back to Chicago (400+ miles)...

I've used Alumiseal in another car - it lasted about a year or so before springing a leak. It didn't seem to do any damage, but I still wouldn't use a pour-in repair in a car I cared about.

heard abt aspirin into the battery way back in high school chem class, along with why it worked, forgot the why but remem it was technically right...know a used car dealer who does it to all batteries, even good ones, he swears it will revive 75% of the dead...pushing a banana or two (less skin) thru the fill hole into a noisey differential (not gonna call it a rear end and get whipped) does quiet a ''howling'' to a ''hum'' for a long time.

did try rad sealer back when i was young and foolish (some things have changed since, some not) and it did stop the rad leak...it also stopped warm air from coming from the heater.
