I saw the tale end of a Myth Busters episode where they said by pouring an egg into a radiator, you can stop some leaks.
Anyone ever do this, to your Vette? Any car?

You're joking right?
Maybe in the middle of the desert and you need a quick, temporary fix, but surely this isn't the first step to take.
........since one is not stranded in the desert, just fix the leak and be done with it......no cooking shows here!.....if someone is in the desert, ANY fix is welcome!

Scroll down towards the bottom of the topic list, its there.
So then at some point in time, someone had a leaky radiator and just decided out of the blue to drop an egg in it? I'm not implying that you were making it up, sorry if it came out that way. It just sounds rediculous! But then again, I've heard of pouring "Coke" over a battery top to clean the corrosion off it and putting broken up pieces of aspirin in a battery to bring it back to life so why not eggs!

By the fact that Myth Busters spent the time on it, I thought that this "myth" would have a wider distribution. Except for the TV show, I never even heard of using an egg for a leaky radiator. I was wondering if anyone else had heard of the myth, but it doesn't seem to have widespread history here (or with anyone else I've asked).
But its an interesting thought, who decided to try it in the first place, and, why did it work?
I've heard about the coke trick, but not the aspirin deal.

I can see it now, a crossdresser in nylons stuck in death valley...scrambled eggs pouring out the radiator with a Corvette Forum sticker on the window. Lovely .

Serious question:
How old are you?
I know you can buy chemicals in the auto parts stores now to spray on battery terminals (I even have a can of it in the ol' toolbox) to get 'em cleaned up. I'm 40 and have known about the Coke trick most of my life.
I didn't have much money growing up (still don't) so we did things like this when doing repairs.
I have heard about the egg thing before (never tried it though) but never heard about the asprin in the battery.

I grew up in a Duke's of Hazzard/Andy of Mayberry town in GA and heard from some folks that you can replace the whole radiator too, and the leak will stop....lol
Guess youhave to pick the right size egg, Med or Lg, dependent on the hole....lol...
I actually saw that episode of Mythbusters and had heard it before. I knew a kid that tried it when I was in HS (long long time ago)...but he went ahead and spent the $.50 for Stop Leak.
During WWII the Army published a handbook of field fixes to help soldiers away from their support base. Coke, asprin pepper and peeing in the radiator were all in there.
