My neighbors have never said anything to me personally. But My wife has has received several comments from the "other" wives. Most say that their husbands are envious or wish they had a car like mine. There is only one other Corvette here in the little town where I live, and he's just a driver. I have tried to talk Corvette's to him, but he is just oblivious to what it is. As far as help, I have had a few former students come by and offer advice and to help if I need it, but there apparently aren't too many gear heads around (and I should know, I've lived in this little community for 28 years).

no complaints from neighbors I work in my shop. except the one time I was running my 71 with open headers, it has a cammed 454 in it, she said i was shaking the pictures on her wall in her house, I said I must have it tuned just right then then I shut it down.

my neighbors are pretty cool, the most frequent reaction, from neighbors wives is "hurry up and finish it, I want to go for a ride" As I have said many times my wife hates this car, you spend more time with that car then you do with me, but busted knuckles, blood, sweat and tears the vert never complains, she just gets better!
Wifey says she will refuse to ride in it, her mother jumped right in and said, I'll put on sun glasses and a scarf and be Doris Day.
I'm still a ways away as this is a project as money allows.
I even took her Mom on the Harley, although my wife does like the bike!
I think she doesnt realize the bond between man and machine even when the first time I met her I was covered with grease climbing from under my 68 ChevyII doing a clutch job. Over 25 yearrs ago!

My neighbors are always walking over are looking over especially since almost all of my friends have Corvettes. In fact, they are always asking me if I got another one. My wife just says, "No and don't encourage him.". Most of the guys in the neighborhood come by and ask about the cars and the women walk by and look at the cars when I am washing and waxing them, which I do all the time. I always have the hoods up on one of the cars even if it is to try and find something to polish/clean under the hood.

Most of my neighbors know my car and remember it as a beautiful driver, but it has been in my garage up on stands since around April or May, just when we had some new neighbors move in next door. The neighbor has never seen my car out of the garage or even with wheels and tires on it!!
The guy that moved in must think it is a POS because I'm always leaning in the engine compartment or cleaning some car part out in the yard. He's not a car guy at all, and told me that fixin' things isn't his cup of tea. Funny thing though - every time his kid's bike breaks or his hottie wife needs the lawnmower started she comes and asks me to fix it!!

the old man down the street delivering avon for his wife said he always wished he could afford one. i said these are cheap!
the UPS man keeps trying to get me to let him drive mine.
Then theres all the people that stop by to comment "Wow! It must be nice to have TWO corvettes!".. I have to roll my eyes and respond with the usual "This is a parts car, it was cheaper to buy the entire car than it was to repair my other one. My other one was paid off years ago. both are old. now, go back to your house and think of how rich I am.

re
the folks around me think that an open garage with a hood up is the "batman" sign and all hurd over to look see or help out. I have some great people here. The guy across the street is a Ford man all the way (hes got about 15 mustangs, rebuilds, racers, etc and did'em all but he still helped me with my clutch just last month. All the neighbors can be overwelming at times but never a problem, in fact I like it.

My neighbor of 17 years, Mike, is married with 3 daughters so he comes over from time to time just to escape all of the estrogene!!!
Two years ago, I let Mike and his wife borrow my yellow 93 to come down to Corvettes at Carlisle with us. He had been hearing our tales of how much fun we have there and expressed an interest in going. I figured he should experiance it in the BEST way, in a Corvette. He & his wife are not REALLY into cars that much but they DID enjoy Carlisle and the trip down.

I've had some of my neighbors stop by and compliment me on my car. Never had any negative comments.

I must be in heaven...
Here's what my neighbors have: next block over is a Cobra replica with a 390, scary fast - guy needs ASR really bad <grin>. Next to him is an 84 Porsche 911s, and we occasionally drive each other's cars to remind ourselves how "the other side" feels (Porsche is super light, fast around a corner, sloppy shift linkage, and ya gotta keep the engine in the power band - Corvette is heavy, rock solid (LOVE that ZF tranny), and has a bottomless well of torque and that orgasmic exhaust rumble). Next door, guy is rebuilding a 38 Chevy coupe he dropped a small-block into. Two streets over, another guy is rebuilding a 70 Nova. The contractor building our neighborhood cruises by occasionally in his red C2.
And, as soon as my wife discovered the seat adjustment power stuff (she has back problems), she just fell in love with my C4. She actually asks that we take it rather than the other cars.

When I am out waxing my car my neighbors usually show up and typically have a comment like "your going to take the paint off that car if you keep waxing it as much as you do". They never offer to help and just stand there and smoke and watch me work. I don't mind though because my car looks sharp compared to the @#%^& boxes they drive.
