I'm in Florida (and don't want to "weather my leather") and so I'm looking for a tonneau cover (black) for a 91 convert. Such things used to be available, but now are not and no one seems to remember where they came from. I've already tried Eckler's and Mid-America by phone and a few others from a "tonneau/Corvette tonneau" web search (all I get is truck tonneau stuff). I'd appreciate any help I could get. Not quite the same. The Cockpit Covers install OVER the windshield and back to the boot lid so you can (presummably) remove the drop-top for more interior storage room but still keep the interior dry if you get caught in a downpour. You must, of course, park the car until the "cover" can be removed. A Tonneau Cover installs at the dash level and has a zipper down the middle so that the passenger side can remain covered while the car is driven. Keeps the sun & bird doo out while you park.
I seem to remember a number of years ago when Ecklers had them. Probably died out for lack of interest.
Check with a local upholstery shop or a maybe a boat shop. You should be able to get them to make the cover in your choice of colors. The metal snaps would look fugly (IMHO only!), but velcro could be an option.
Yes, That is the problem. The fasteners. That was what I was wondering about if anyone had found a "factory" look to attaching the cover. I grew up in two-seaters and always had a cover. So convenient and easy to cover and unzip the drivers' side and drive away.
I agree with c4cruiser. A quality boat canvas shop WILL be able to make for you, exactly what you want, with the types of stiffeners and fasteners that you want for a very unique look for your car. They can do ANY material you want and you will be amazed at the marine materials available.
Good luck!
