confused on which bilstein shocks to use on 96 conv. collector
edition. no z51 anywhere on window sticker or build sheet. have conflicting info from bilstein and shock suppliers. told need hd shocks no.2053 and 2054 others say need sport no. 2055 and 2056. which set no. is correct? PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Depends upon how you want to drive it. HDs are best for everyday driving. If you want top handling and are willing to put up with a rougher ride then go with the SP. Roads here is GA are very smooth and I like to 'throw' it into the corners I am going with SPs real soon.
Base vert: appears to be the same as for Z51
Z51 vert: F4-B46-2055-H0 (front) & F4-B46-2056-H0 (rear)
If you keep in mind that for the replacement parts, "Heavy Duty" or "HD" are for the base application, and "Sport" is the Z51 equivalent, and it may be easier to keep things straight when shopping the vendors.
For what it's worth, I put Z51 shocks on my base coupe and really like the outcome.

Just noticed this. Bilstein calls the 2055 & 2056 "HD" rather than "Sport". I have a vague memory that Z51 & Base convertibles used the same shock, and the Bilstein catalog seems to reflect that. Hopefully someone will chime in if I'm wrong.
