I must say you car looks fantastic. I talked with a body shop about my car. It has two coats of paint on it. They said not to media blast it. Do not use chemical strippers on the body. They would start with with 150 to 180 grit sand paper to remove the paint.
What color is the car? Base coat / clear?
What did you have to do for painting the bumpers? Flex additive?
What was the trick to remove the rear bumper?
Great job!
i did not media or chemical either, itis my understanding that u can chemical strip them with a special chemical for smc, howeverif you take it down that far i would epoxy and then 2 k primer. I just 2 kprimed it was good enuff for the out come i wanted. The paint is a gm color and is a base clear. i did not put any flex in the paint all the paint and primer was a urathane paint which has a great flex and durability, i have heard there is no need for a flex agent and with todsays advances in paint its not needed. others might disagree but thats just my opinion, plus i have heard the flex agents eventually makes its way to the surface and evaps or what ever so after a few months its not even in there. Just stick with good urathane products and you will be fine.
as for the rear bumper its a real PITA to get off, first remove the gas filler door and cap, then the rear plate and back up lights, try and fight your arm in to get the tail lights out. get the 2 inner lights first it will make iteasier to get the outter ones out as you can go thro the holes for the inners. now it worked for me to get the drivers inner out through the gas door opening and the pass inner out thro the plate opening, do whats best for you. once those are out then there is (8 mill bolts i think is the size) along the top edge about 10 i cant remeber ecatly and then go in through the tail lights outter ones and there is 5 or so 10 mil bolts along the corners and back. and then 2 on each side above the marker lights which are acceable from under the car when you remove the fender liners. and then two bolts under the car buy the exhaust. Iff you look at my pic of the back of the car in the first post where the bumper is off you can see the holes along the back of thecar where the screws are. I dont recomed taking it off for a paint. they are very hard iended up painting mine on the car for thefact that it was so hard to work with i didnt want to mess with fresh paint same with the front hard to get off and on withfresh paint.just some food for thought. I hope thishelps you
The before shot of it looked so familiar like I have seen your vette with my own eyes before, but it was probably that I just remember seeing it when you posted pictures before. Looks very nice (hint: change your interior to blue) blue/blue is my favorite color combo on a vette. Where are you located by chance?

Great job.. Glad to see someone rescuing vettes instead of giving up on them. I love my '84 and wouldn't trade it for anything. There is a '90 in our area that looks as rough as the one you just painted. If it wasn't for other stuff, I would try and buy it. It just sits in the same spot and never moves....Again Good Job!!
