Before I go dropping the $50.00 down for a Corvette Museum build sheet, can anyone tell me what info I will get that I don't already know? I know towns and years of ownership from 2,3,and 4th owners from carfax. Im owner #5. I know build date and I know options. What else do I get for my $50.00?
ARe you talking about the build sheet or the window sticker?? The build sheet is what follows the car down the assembly line so the workers know what is to be installed on the car. It does show RPO codes but depending on the year, not as detailed as the Service Parts Identification label that is under the console lid.
The build sheet wil have the name of the dealer where the car was sent, the gross vehicle weight on the front and rear axles and the shipping weight. Does your car still have the original build sheet on the top of the gas tank?
The window sticker will have the list of the standard items, the options ordered on the car along with the costs of the options and the total price (MSRP).
The Build Sheet is $40 if you aren't an NCM member ($30 if you are) and the window sticker is $35 ($30 if you are a member) When you place your order, you can join at the same time and get the NCM member price. You also help the Museum and your membership is tax deductible!

No, the window sticker has the dealer info. I don't think the build sheet does.
I don't know if the build sheet is still on the tank as the pump was replaced by the last owner. I don't know if you must drop the tank to replace the pump on a C4. If so Im sure its gone. I really want to know the selling dealer, so I guess the window sticker is what Im after. I can tell what the car costs by adding up the options.
Does anyone know where the build sheet even is on C4's? I've heard everything from the fuel tank to stuffed up under one of the seats. On a 1964,I can imagine that kind of thing, but on an 80's car I would think all the build info is on a computer at the factory assembly line. Why would they need to put a piece of paper on the car?I don't think my 2005 Trailblazer has one, could be wrong though, after all,the Vette is 21 years old.
The fuel pump is replaced thru the top filler hole so the tank doesn't have to be dropped. Most build sheets are glued to the forward part of the tank at the top and it's even possible to see part of it if you look up in front of the spare tire carrier. Early C4's also had a copy of the build sheet rolled up and placed in the crossmember in front of the motor.
Both pieces are nice to have for documenting the car, The price of the options that show on the window sticker can vary from year to year. The dealer who ordered the car will be on both sheets.
The build sheet has both the "Charge To" and "Ship To" locations on it. The dealer code is also on the build sheet.

The build sheet give very specific codes as to the springs (my front spring is FSK Rear Spring NYU) Shocks (Front 7C Rear 7D) Calipers (Front 03-04 Rear 21-22) Stabilizer bars (Front 02 Rear NB), just to name a few items that it shows. It does show Charge to Code: 14096 Casey Chevrolet Corp Newport News, VA Ship To Code: 14096 Same as above.
The main thing is that by purchasing the build sheet and the window sticker you are supporting the National Corvette Museum. Which if you haven't been there, make the time to go, it's fantastic.
