Default Window question

I have an 88 L98. My drivers side window goes down fine, comes up fine until it is about 3-4" from going all the way up. It then slows down to a crawl but finally goes all the way up. The odd thing is, when I open the door and bring it up, it goes all the way without a hitch. Why would this happen? Is it a door alignment problem?

Thanks in advance for you help.

I haven't had this problem with my C4 but I did have a similar problem with my 4th gen Firebird (94). It turned out to be the window regulator and motor. Once I replaced them the window worked just fine. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the feedback. It seems strange that if the door is open it works fine. I will do some searching on the parts you recommended. Thanks again.

I haven't replaced it, but I will watch it close and see if that may be the problem. Thanks for the heads up.

Default C4 Window Problems

I am having the same problem with both windows not going all the way up on my 89. I also replaced the weatherstrip and that is what is causing the problem. As soon as the window gets into full contact with the weather strip, it will not go up any further unless I open the door. The window is in the correct adjustment position.

Was going to lubricate the rubber strip to see it it breaks in but would really like to get it working properly. With the door panels off, I see no adjustment to help the problem.

I am on the window bandwagon if anyone out there can think of a cure.

Thanks

The cure is a new window motor, assuming you have the window adjusted properly. The bushings in the motor go, causing problems when tension is applied, and due to the shape of the window, it gets tighter at the top. At least this is generally the cause. You can try lubing the mechanism.

Appreciate the posts. Got some good things to look at after my knee surgery tomorrow. Guess it will be a few weeks before I get to it.
